What is it about Darcy?

dear readers,

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE written by Jane Austen
What's not to like about this novel?  You got the sarcastic father, highstrung father, slutty sisters, bitchy mean girls and brooding men.  All kidding aside this is one of those classic novels you already know all about before you read and yet it draws you in and the words and descriptions are  still no match for BBC lavish and enjoyable production.

I have seen the movies, mini-series, books based on Mr. Darcy, societies and overall swooning of women when the name Darcy is mentioned.  So, I have to ask what is it about Darcy?  Best way to answer this question is read Jane Austen's beloved novel.  (GASP! I am a 30-something woman and have NOT read the actual book).
After reading this novel I have to say...I get it.  He has the mysterious air about him, as he broods in the corner, speaking only when he needs to and it cuts to the heart.  He is a bit awkward but that makes him flawed and attainable.  The main reason he is so swoonable is because when you fall for the bad boy who breaks your heart and leaves you wounded he's there not only to pick up the pieces --- but after one intense gaze it's like "Bad Boy who?"   I'd still rather take Mr. Knightly (from EMMA) and the banter.

love,
kris
