Mine to Read: Reviews

dear readers,

I don't read erotic fiction for the genre alone but I have recently been reading romantic suspense that has more sensual scenes than normal.  One author that I will read anything by is Cynthia Eden...

(I received ARCs from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

MINE TO TAKE
(Book 1)

3 STARS

Skye Sullivan is being watched and no one believes her so she is not receiving any protection.  Old flame, Trace is now wealthy and has his own security agency.  When Skye comes to him he drops everything and guards Skye himself.  As the threat continues Trace himself is obsessed with Skye and his lust takes over.

This novel is more erotic romance than a romantic suspense.  I do not read many erotic novels unless it is the side effect of a romantic suspense.  This one is the opposite where "suspense" is the side story.  Eden is a good writer so there is suspense but at times it does get forgotten.

MINE TO KEEP
(Book 2)

4 STARS

Mine to Keep continues Skye and Trace's story...after surviving her ordeal Skye wants to have a normal safe life with Trace.  Unfortunately, Trace's past has come to the present day to tear them apart.  Trace's past, after he left her, has been a secret to Skye and Trace still wants to keep her in the dark.  However, his past has come to take his life...which is Skye and he must trust his past friends to survive.

This novel has more action and suspense than the first novel.  I really like Trace's friends from the past - Noah and Drake. I loved the ending as I did not see it coming but also disliked it (cannot say more without revealing spoilers). More please!

MINE TO HOLD
(Book 3)

4 STARS

Now that Skye and Trace are safe and rebuilding their life, Claire has left town to ask for Noah York's help.  She needs a job and at this point he may be the only one who can help her.  Her parents were murdered by her teenage lover when they would not tell him where Claire was hidden.  After the murder Ethan is sent to prison but his obsession has not ceased nor has his father's anger with Claire.  When she tries to rebuild her life and get a job Senator Harrison is there to make sure it crumbles.

From the moment Noah York met Claire his life has begun to change...he wants to protect the proud fragile woman.  He will do anything he can to make sure she is safe including murder.  When Ethan is attends his father's funeral his car is blown up and Ethan is the first to be suspected...

The novel continues from Mine to Keep and has the same suspense and romance to engage the reader.  I liked the relationship between Noah and Claire and we got to see more the couple's past.  A great book.

MINE TO CRAVE
(Book 4)

3 STARS

The fourth book in the series features Trace and Noah's tortured friend, Drake Archer and a mysterious thief, Jasmine Bennett.  Jasmine seems to be connected with his past and bringing him down.  Jasmine hold more secrets than Drake. WIll their pasts and secrets get in the way of them being together?

With the last two novels being steeped in suspense this novel fell a bit flat.  The secrets and twists kept coming at you that you soon did not care anymore as it seemed to be the same every time.  I also did not like Jasmine for Drake.

There will be another book in the series...

Fear for Me is for Me! (Review)

dear readers,

I have only read a few books by Cynthia Eden but she is fast becoming a favourite!

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

FEAR FOR ME
(Book Two)
written by Cynthia Eden
genre: romantic-suspense, thriller, romance

4 STARS

"She's the obsession two men share: one wants her love, the other wants her life.
A shared passion for justice first brought Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US marshal Anthony Ross together--when each played their part in bringing down the infamous Bayou Butcher. The sparks flying between the two made it clear they weren't just a legal dream team. Then desire had to make way for duty, and what they had was done. But it would never be over.

Five years later, it's none other than the Butcher who gets things started again, when his shocking jailbreak reunites the lawyer and the lawman...and reignites their love. But this time, the pair is in danger of being permanently parted--by a killer with revenge on his mind, and Lauren on the top of his list. As a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another's relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both." (From Amazon)

An amazing follow-up to the first book in Eden's romantic-suspense series.  The books are loosely tied together but can be read as standalone. Lauren is strong female character that gives Anthony a run for his money,  Fabulous chemistry between the hero and heroine and great suspense.

I will be reviewing Eden's Mine series in the next few posts.

Review: Every Waking Moment

dear readers,

Looking for a standalone romantic suspense...

Every Waking Moment
Standalone
Written by Brenda Novak
genre: romantic suspense, mystery

4 STARS

Emma has finally escaped her dangerous boyfriend is on the run with her diabetic son, Max. As she tries to put distance between the man who has ruined her life she worries for the ones who have helped her escaped. Max's father will not let her go and turns to a stranger, Preston for help. Preston has his own secrets and the last thing he wants is to care about someone.

My first novels of Brenda Novak were romantic suspense - The Last Stand series - and had me hooked. This standalone novel is Novak at her best. If you know about Novak's personal life you know her youngest son has diabetes. It is a cause she is active in and has great respect for. Emma's son, Max has diabetes and the way in which Novak writes about diabetes and about a mother and boy who have to live with it is written realistically.

REVIEW: Montana Sky

dear readers,

MONTANA SKY
Written By NORA ROBERTS
 4 STARS
genre: romantic suspense

Jack Mercy - a gruff mean old SOB - has died and leaves to   his three daughters (by three different wives) a third of the ranch. There is one minor hitch - they must live on the ranch together for a year.
Willa is devastated as she has lived with her father and worked alongside him. The ranch means everything to her as does her father's approval. The salt to her wounds is that Ben McKinnon (fellow ranch owner) and Nate Torrence (lawyer and rancher) are to supervise the running of the ranch. Tess is a writer from LA and Montana may as well be Mars to her. She has no feels towards her father except abandonment so she will stay on the ranch spite him. Now she must deal with Montana's harsh weather, ranch life and sisters she has never met. Lily is the only one who does not mind the terms as she is on the run from her abusive ex-husband.
To make things worse their seems to be a murderer loose...this only makes the Mercy women stronger with the men beside them.
I loved this novel - it has everything you wish for in a good read - adventure, romance, mystery and well written. All I can say is READ!

!!!SIZZLING!!! New Romantic Suspense: Review

dear readers,

One of my guilty pleasures is reading romantic suspense novels.  The great novels have a fine balance of romance and suspense.  There is a killer loose and a heroine and hero are thrown together not only to solve a case but also to fight their passion for one another.  I stay away from the porn and violence that sometimes is disguised as a romantic suspense.  You want to leave the book a bit shaken with the thoughts of the villain and stirred within with the love of the characters.  I don't want to be left disturbed and in need of a shower.  A new author - well new to me - Jami Alden's work is closer to the former.

BEG FOR MERCY
(Book 1)
3.5 STARS

Megan Flynn is finally going to sleep with her new homicide detective boyfriend, Cole Williams only to have it interrupted by a phone call. Her brother has been arrested for rape and murder.  Fast forward 2 years where Sean Flynn is on death row with Megan putting her own life on hold to get him out.  Cole in a bid to save his career publicly stated Megan was not serious to him and he felt that Sean was guilty.
For the sake of his sanity and his sister's Sean decides to forgo anymore appeals.  This only causes Megan to investigate on her own.  She is putting herself in danger getting to the truth but she must find the killer.  Cole worries for her safety but helping her could lose him his job.  But can he really live without her anymore?

I galloped through this spicy novel.  Megan is a bit annoying but then again if I had someone on death row depending on me to rescue them I'd be highstrung too.  Cole is yummy and fierce  - no match for the killer or Megan.  I was more intrigued by Sean who has a past in the Army and this quiet sexiness.  Jami Alden seems to be an author to keep an eye on.

HIDE FROM EVIL
(BOOK TWO)
4 STARS

Sean Flynn is now free and trying to put the past few years behind.  Krista Slater - Sean's Prosecutor - feels guilty and angry that she had the wrong man and almost had him put to death.  She tries to put things right by continuing the investigation on her own dime.  Her one hope is Sean's help but he does not want to get involved - and neither do some other people.

When Krista attempts to gain Sean's help they are dragged into a fight for their life.  They don't know who they can trust and only have each other to turn to.
Krista is like a Hitchcock heroine - a gorgeous cold blonde.  She is tough as nails and out to prove herself to the world but has a quiet vulnerability that makes her very likeable.   Sean is just what she needs to bring out the warmth and in turn she brings Sean to life.  This novel has quick-paced action in both suspense and romance.  This series seems to get better and I cannot wait for Talia and Brooks story.

RUN FROM FEAR
(Book Three)
4 STARS
Talia Vega survived the Seattle Slasher with the help of the ex-Green Beret, Jack Brooks. Wanting to leave her terrifying past she moves to another town close to her now college bound sister, Rosario. She also wants to get away from Jack who she feels greatly attracted to but thinks he sees her as a broken victim.

Soon Talia starts receiving items that David, her ex-lover and mad man, had given to her and her home is being violated. Rosario calls Jack and suddenly Talia is not only running for her life but for her heart.

Jack has tried to forget Talia but can't and he will jeopardize his heart, job and life to keep her safe and for a moment with her. Together they must work together to find the her stalker.

Another great novel by Jami Alden and I am so glad she decided to write Talia and Jack's story. From book one I have liked Talia and could not wait to find out more about her. She is a strong woman stuck in a bad situation and thought herself in love with a man who loved her.
This novel also features men and women from Alden's Gemini Trilogy as Jack is a member of Gemini Security. Although I already know the outcome of the trilogy I will give book 1 a shot. I do kind of wish I would have known this before as I am a stickler with order.
