All I Wanted Was to Stop Reading: Review

dear readers,

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

ALL I WANT IS YOU
Written by Elizabeth Anthony
genre: erotica, historical erotica

DNF

At age thirteen Sophie loses her father to the Great War and her mother to an illness.  Like her mother before her she is soon a maid at the Great Hall - the country house of a Duke.  There she discovers her mother was a bit too friendly with men and her father may not be her biological dad.  Wanting a better life she declines her childhood friend's proposal and instead is being lead to a world of sex and secrets by the late Duke's widow.

This is an erotic novel set during and post WWI.  The novel is trying to be Downton Abbey but instead of scandalous it falls a bit flat due to the very simplistic writing.  If you are looking for an erotic novel and writing does not matter you may be able to finish this novel.

Homecoming Ranch - Review

dear readers,

(I received an ARC from the author/publisher/NetGalley/ in exchange for an honest review).

HOMECOMING RANCH
(Book 1)
written by Julia London
genre: contemporary romance, series

4 STARS

In Homecoming Ranch Leo Kendrick tells us about Pine River, his brother, Luke and the legacy left by Grant Tyler.  When once wealthy Grant Tyler is fatally ill he finds out due to his last divorce the only asset he now has is Homecoming Ranch.  He tells his lawyer, Jackson, to leave the Ranch to his three estranged daughters, Madeline, Emma and Libby.

The last several years have been hard on Luke Kendrick first with his brother's illness and then his mother's cancer and death.  After six years he has graduated from college and is trying to make a career in Denver.  He is again called back to Pine River when he learns that his father and Leo are no longer living at Homecoming Ranch.

Madeline Pruett has never known her biological father and has been raised by her irresponsible mother.  While her career is going well her personal has never taken off.  When she decides to go to Colorado to see what her father has left her she also runs away from her possible romance with Stephen.

Madeline finds out she has two sisters she never knew about and has been left a ranch she does not want.  Luke wants to get the ranch back for his father - Bob made a desperate and trusting deal with Grant - but finds himself distracted by Madeline.  Madeline finds herself postponing her trip home as she finds Pine River growing on her and Luke breaking down her walls.

I enjoyed Julia London's previous contemporary romance the Lear Family trilogy so was excited when I saw Homecoming Ranch.  Right off the bat I will say that either you will love the heroine, Madeline, or be really annoyed with her.  She is Type A to the extreme and does get on your nerves after awhile.  Leo, Luke's brother, is the one telling us this story and his voiceover is prominent and sarcastic.  I liked Madeline and thought she was a realistic character.  I liked Leo too, but often found him a bit too much.  A good contemporary romantic novel and promising series.

Please Do Not Come Home to Me - Come Home to Me: Review

dear readers,

This blog post was really hard for me to write.  In fact, it took me a few days after reading the book to even sit down to rate it.

(I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review).

COME HOME TO ME
(Book 6: WHISKEY CREEK)
written by Brenda Novak
genre: contemporary romance, fiction

3 STARS

Presley Christensen has returned to Whiskey Creek with her 18-month old son, Wyatt.  Presley and her sister, Cheyenne, try and keep Wyatt away from Aaron as he might suspect Wyatt is really his son. As she opens a new business and sets up a home for her and her son she is pursued by Riley, a well-respected man wanting a relationship, and Aaron, her ex, who is not sure what he wants in the future but wants Presley right now. But will his feelings change when he discovers the truth about Wyatt? And, how will this secret affect Cheyenne and her husband, Dylan who is Aaron's brother and also in the dark?

As you know I am a big fan of Brenda Novak's books and love the Whiskey Creek series so it killed me to rate it only three stars.  I rounded up from 2.5 just because of Novak's writing skills and that I was able to get through the book.  What didn't work was that Cheyenne, a heroine from a earlier book had a personality transplant for the worse.  Without giving away any plot details I found that Cheyenne's decisions in this novel were not only bad but ridiculous.  The baby issues this novel were straight from daytime television and no one seemed to have any common sense.

The ending of a Whiskey Creek novel usually leaves me counting down to the next book and this time I am actually okay with waiting and do not know if I will put it as a priority read.  I feel so bad for Dylan, Cheyenne's husband, that I almost hope there will be a future novel where he will find a woman who deserves that love he has.  I am also not looking forward to Eve finding love as she also seems step on another woman's heart to try and get a man.  And, the storyline with Dylan's father makes me cringe for the Amos boys.

I will still continue with the next book in Whiskey Creek because I do want to see where Novak takes us next.

Review: Dating, Dining and Desperation

dear readers,

I read Lock, Stock and Over a Barrel last month (http://mynoveladdiction.blogspot.ca/2014/02/review-lock-stock-and-over-barrel.html)and just finished the follow-up book...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

DATING, DINING AND DESPERATION
(Book 2: Dear Daphne)
written by Melody Carlson
genre: contemporary fiction, christian fiction, romance

3 STARS

Daphne is still looking for a husband in order to fulfill her Aunt's condition of her inheritance. With less than a year left Daphne has to start dating ASAP.  She has help in her new Southern neighbour, Sabrina who has moved to town to get away from her ex-husband.  While Sabrina pushes Daphne at any and every man, her father and friend, Olivia still want her to date Ricardo, the owner of a local diner.  Daphne has been brooding over her aunt's lawyer, Jake who is on vacation with his ex-wife.

While her love life seems to be taking over everything she comes across a young girl who is being raised by her elder sickly grandmother.  Daphne inserts herself in Mabel and Vera's life and wonders if adopting a child would trump getting married.

Dating, Dining and Desperation is what I would classify as a middle book in that it carries on from the last book and sets up the next novel. Not a bad light contemporary romance but nothing special. I also do not like the heroine's love interest as it seems forced and I am just not feeling the chemistry.

Review: Shoreline Drive

dear readers,

I was iffy about the first novel in the Sanctuary Island series (http://mynoveladdiction.blogspot.ca/2014/02/review-sanctuary-island.html)but had already said yes to reviewing book 2 so I went ahead and read it...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

SHORELINE DRIVE
(Sanctuary Island: Book Two)
genre: contemporary romance

4 STARS

Merry and Ella have decided to stay in Sanctuary Island - Ella with her new love Grady and Merry with their mother and new baby, Alex.  While she loves getting to know her mother she is not sure living together is the best situation.  Ben, the vet, who helped deliver Alex decides to strike a deal with Merry...is he marries him he will provide for her and the baby and give Alex all he needs.  Ben tells Merry he cannot have kids and Alex is his and his family;s last chance at a heir.  Merry accepts his proposal but can the two keep from loving one another?

After being disappointed with the first novel I was not expecting anything.  I just wanted to read the book to complete my obligations...but WOW, a complete turn around.  While the story is cliched and predictable you wanted to see how the characters evolved.  With the second novel the author focused on fewer characters - Merry and Ben's story and Taylor's story.  This allows the reader to connect with the characters in my opinion.

Yes, I will be continuing the series...Heartbreak Cove (expected date 2015).

Fear for Me is for Me! (Review)

dear readers,

I have only read a few books by Cynthia Eden but she is fast becoming a favourite!

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

FEAR FOR ME
(Book Two)
written by Cynthia Eden
genre: romantic-suspense, thriller, romance

4 STARS

"She's the obsession two men share: one wants her love, the other wants her life.
A shared passion for justice first brought Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US marshal Anthony Ross together--when each played their part in bringing down the infamous Bayou Butcher. The sparks flying between the two made it clear they weren't just a legal dream team. Then desire had to make way for duty, and what they had was done. But it would never be over.

Five years later, it's none other than the Butcher who gets things started again, when his shocking jailbreak reunites the lawyer and the lawman...and reignites their love. But this time, the pair is in danger of being permanently parted--by a killer with revenge on his mind, and Lauren on the top of his list. As a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another's relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both." (From Amazon)

An amazing follow-up to the first book in Eden's romantic-suspense series.  The books are loosely tied together but can be read as standalone. Lauren is strong female character that gives Anthony a run for his money,  Fabulous chemistry between the hero and heroine and great suspense.

I will be reviewing Eden's Mine series in the next few posts.

Lawhon Beautifully Revives An Old Case

dear readers,

By now you know I love a good mystery and historical fiction...add a true cold case story and it is the perfect night of reading...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

THE WIFE, THE MAID, AND THE MISTRESS
written by Ariel Lawhon
genre: historical fiction, true crime, mystery, suspense

4 STARS

Based on a true scandalizing case where 1930's Justice Joseph Crater seemed to disappear into thin air.  Ariel Lawhon uses fiction along with facts to weave an answer to Crater's disappearance.

We see Crater through the eyes of three women...his wife, Stella, who is the ultimate supportive trophy wife dressed in designer duds and lives her life according to society's rules...his mistress, Ritzi, a girl from a small town trying to become an actress but is only a chorus showgirl...his maid, Maria Simon, wife of a police detective trying to earn money to supplement their lives...each holds secrets of the man and of their own.

Thirty five years later Stella meets Detective Simon and finally offers him the truth..

Lawhon uses fiction along with facts to really make the story come alive. The writing and setting of the 1930s seemed quite realistic. It adds flavour to the setting and story.  The three women in this story each tell their story and Lawhon does a great job weaving their story together.

Review: Mrs. Poe

dear readers,

Everyone knows Edgar Allan Poe for his gothic poem, The Raven and story, The Tell-Tale Heart but did you know his own life was just as gothic as his writing? Poe's young life has had much upheaval and when he was 27 he romanced his 13 year old first cousin.  When Poe meets commercial and critical success with The Raven he meets fellow writer Frances Osgood. Frances is a mother of two young girls living with friends.  Her own husband is busy romancing rich women and leaves her in New York alone.  When Frances - a non-gothic writer - meets handsome Poe things only heat up...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

MRS. POE
written by Lynn Cullen
genre: literary fiction, historical fiction, romance

2.5 Stars

Mrs. Poe is based on true events, rumours and with Cullen's imagination.  In 1845 Edgar Allan Poe was known for his gothic poem, The Raven and marrying his very young first cousin, Virginia.  Frances Osgood, a writer, has been abandoned by her artist husband.  She and her two young daughters take refuge in New York at a friend's house.  Through a literary society she meets the enigmatic Poe and forges a connection through writing and attraction.  Mrs. Poe requests to meet Frances claiming to be a fan of her.  Curious Frances goes to see her and does not know what to think of the sickly Mrs. Poe.  As Frances visits and spends more time with the couple and Mrs. Poe's mother she grows more attracted to Edgar and more scared of Virginia.  As rumours begin to fly and poems exchanged the once happy trio is hurled into dangerous games.

While the subject matter and plot was interesting the book felt long and then started to get dull. The writing was very flowery which might have been due to the book being about poets.  Yet this added to the book feeling longer. I did finish the novel to see the author's interpretation of the facts and gossip. With better editing I think this novel would have been more engaging.

While the novel did not engage me the story of Poe, his young wife and maybe mistress has definitely intrigued me.

Review: Sanctuary Island

dear readers,

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

SANCTUARY ISLAND
(Sanctuary Island: Book One)
written by Lily Everett
genre: contemporary romance

3 STARS

Ella Preston's sister, Merry is pregnant and wishes to reunite with their estranged mother.  When Ella's boss forces her to take a vacation she agrees to go with her sister go to Sanctuary Island.  She vows to not let her mother into her heart and is determined to not have any fun. That is until she meets handsome Grady Wilkes.  Grady, however, is like family to her mother and tries to change Ella's mind about her.  Will being with Grady include having to forgive her mother?  Will she lose her sister and her own heart to Sanctuary Island?

A cute novel about love, family and forgiveness.  There is nothing outstanding in this novel that sets it apart from other contemporary romance series.  The romance between Grady and Ella is awkward and forced at times which makes a reader feel uncomfortable.  Since you do not really get to know any of the characters it is hard to root for a character.  Yet, the heart in this novel is present and shows promise.  I am in for the next book and will see if I continue the series.

Review: And When She Was Good

dear readers,

Have you ever wondered what secrets your neighbours have tried to keep hidden from the world?  Shows like Desperate Housewives and Weeds grips us because we cannot imagine that a person you see every day would have such shocking lives...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

AND WHEN SHE WAS GOOD
Written by Laura Lippman
genre: suspense, fiction

3.5 Stars

Heloise is a suburban mom attending her son's sports games and is involved in his school and activities.  She attends church regularly but Heloise also has a secret life.  Only her son's caregiver knows her true profession as a Madam to some of the most powerful men.  We learn through flashbacks how Heloise came into this life and has kept her secrets from others.  When another woman is accused of being a suburban madam and is found dead in a car Heloise worries her life may just unravel.

The novel And When She Was Good is based on Lippman's short story, Scratch a Woman.  I have not had a chance to read this short story yet.

An interesting novel for sure.  Lippman takes the subject of prostitution and turns it into something her readers can relate to and not easily dismissed.  She  shows how someone, or anyone, can turn to this life before they even realize what is happening.  Heloise keeps the novel engaging but the suspense keeps you turning the pages.

Review: Lock, Stock and Over a Barrel

dear readers,

Melody Carlson is a Christian Literature author...which basically means God is mentioned without his name being taken in vain and characters may attend church.  Recently, I have picked up some novels with the "Christian Literature" label but it has not affected my opinion of the book.  I am not Christian or religious but believe in God and love learning about different faiths. As long as religious preaching does not take over the novel I will continue with these light quick reads.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

LOCK, STOCK AND OVER A BARREL
(Dear Daphne: Book 1)
written by Melody Carlson
genre: christian literature, contemporary romance, fiction

3 STARS

Daphne's life in New York and working at The New York Times is not going the way she had first envisioned. Her best friend is married and having her first baby and looking for a new house.  When Daphne's Aunt Dee dies she rushes home for the funeral.  She soon discovers she has been left Aunt Dee's estate but it comes with conditions. These conditions must be met within the next year if she wishes to keep her new life back home.

This book is described as "Christian Literature" but isn't heavy on religion (or preachy) at all.  I cannot describe too much about the novel as there is some surprises that might be revealed.  I will say this is a light low action contemporary romance with light humour.

I do have the next novel in the series to review.

One Too Many Problems: Review

dear readers,

I am a "read in order" reader.  I have to start with book one and if I can start with the author's first book written I will.  Maybe I'm too curious...or nosey...I don't ever want to miss a thing...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

ONE TOO MANY ROGUES
(Rival Rogues: Book 1)
written by Samantha Grace
genre: historical fiction, historical romance, romance

3 STARS

Gabby has loved Anthony, her brother's best friend, for as long as she can remember.  When they are alone she thinks he may feel for her what she feels for him, but when her brothers appear he becomes aloof.  Anthony has already broke Gabby's heart once by marrying another woman.  When he becomes a widower he promises Gabby he will marry her but has to go do one thing before he can ask her brothers for her hand in marriage.  Feeling abandoned she lets Sebastian, a rogue, charm her into letting him court her.  When Anthony finds out Sebastian they begin a wager for Gabby's heart and hand.

First of all - while this is a novel in a new series the series is connected with her first series, Beau Monde Bachelor.  This novel may reveal some of the plots from her previous novel.  Gabby's brothers have their story in that series.

I enjoyed this novel but I kept getting this sense of Im missing some of the story due to the fact Grace hints at backstories (as I have said above).  I also did not care for Gabby that much.  She seemed to create her own problems and then was confused as to why she was in a pickle.  Anthony also dragged things out so much I did not blame Gabby for wanting Sebastian for simplicity.  I think I will start at the beginning with Samantha Grace and see if I like her first novel any better.

Must Read Book: The Invention of Wings: Review

dear readers,

Sorry I have been absent for awhile but I have been doing a LOT of reading so I have many reviews for you all! I love history and American history from inception to the 1960s is my passion.  Along with factual reading I enjoy historical fiction.  It is a way to put yourself in the time through interesting characters...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

THE INVENTION OF WINGS
Written by Sue Monk Kidd
genre: literature, historical fiction, african-american history, women's history

4 STARS

Sue Monk Kidd wrote The Invention of Wings because of her interest in the Grimke sisters and the time they lived in. In the novel we hear from Sarah Grimke and her maid, Hetty "Handful" Grimke.

Sarah Grimke is the middle child of a wealthy lawyer with a household of house and field slaves.  We meet Sarah at a young age when her ideals and moral code is cemented.  As a child she wanted to be a jurist like her father and brother but is told that she is a woman and therefore will be a wife.  She meets a charming man with whom she thinks she can be the "wife" with.  When her heart is broken she forgoes society and her reputation as she fights for the rights for women and African-Americans with her youngest sister, Angelina.

Hetty's mother is also a slave has become Mrs. Grimke's seamstress when she  shows talent.  Hetty sits at her mother's feet learning about sewing, her family history and wanting to be free.  Sarah is uncomfortable with Hetty being a slave and tries to free her when Hetty is given to her on her birthday.  When she is told no Sarah goes against the law to teach her to read and write.  Hetty taking on her mother's word joins the cause to free herself.

I loved Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life of Bees and was pleased to see that she was writing another novel set in the South. Before I started this novel I did not know that this story was based on real historical figures.  The author does tell in the Afterwards why she wrote this story and how much is historical fact and how much is historical.  I love that the novel alternates between Sarah and Hetty as it gives us the aspect of both "slaves" and "slaveholders" in the early nineteenth century.  The writing is brilliant and the subject matter is so interesting.  I found myself looking up the Grimke sisters and seeing what was written about them.  This is one novel that will leave you still thinking about it months later.

I will have a few more reviews on historical fiction set in the United States for you!

BDB Series: Book Two: REVIEW

dear readers,

I have already gone off track on my January reading plan and have added, Lover Eternal (Book 2) of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood to the list.  Book two follows Rhage's story and I totally gobbled this story up within a day...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

LOVER ETERNAL
(BDB: BOOK Two)
written by J.R. Ward
genre: paranormal romance

4 STARS

Rhage has looks that gets him all the women he needs to control his beast. He has been envious of those Vampires that have mates but it is not something he expects to find because of his curse.  That is until he meets Mary, a human.

Mary works at a law firm and volunteers the rest of her time at a helpline.  She was in remission for her cancer but she thinks it has returned. Mary has isolated herself but is friendly with neighbour, Bella.

One day a young man shows up at her door.  He is mute but Mary knows sign language.  She introduces him to Bella who thinks she knows what he is.  She contacts the Brotherhood who step in to help. When Rhage meets Mary something inside him changes.  As he tries to woo Mary as his own she in turn fears she does not have much time left.

I enjoyed the second book and loved Rhage and his beast.  I was not entirely sure I liked Mary all that much.  I found her to be a bit annoying but she does seem to get better as the book continues.  I also liked the introduction of new character, John Matthew.  He seems to have an intriguing story there and he is so loveable.  I must warn you dear readers that if you read this book you will need book 3 handy.  There is a cliffhanger ending...

This book was published in 2006.

One Novel, Two Reviews

dear readers,

I hope you all had a great week and are having a fabulous start to the weekend.  In Vancouver, BC it is WINDY outside but has finally stopped raining...for now.  Horrible weather for going out today but great weather for reading :)

I am a re-reader of books. If I love a book I have no problem reading the novel over and over again (some examples: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Little Women, Outlander, Into the Wilderness).  It is like visiting old friends and recapturing old memories.  I will also reread if I want to continue a series.  Sometimes I will start with Book 1 and then time will go by before I can get to book 2.  By that time I have forgotten keys scenes and characters.  I will then do a skim re-read or full re-read.  Usually I feel the same way about a book and sometimes a little more or less than the first reading...

DARK LOVER
(Black Dagger Brotherhood: Book One)
written by J.R. Ward
genre: paranormal romance, suspense

Darius asks the King of Vampires, Wrath to help his half-breed (half-human/half-vampire)daughter through the transition.  Wrath declines at first but after Darius is murdered by the Lessers he goes straight out to protect her. Even though Wrath has a mate, Marissa he has never felt love for a woman.  Wrath soon finds himself having feelings for the half-human, Beth.

Beth, a reporter, is drawn to Warth like a moth to a flame but when she discovers who is his and why he first came to her her world is blown away. Can she accept she will be going through a transition and let Wrath help her.

REVIEW 1 (December 17, 2011)
3 STARS

I liked this novel.  I did not really find Warth attractive and found him to be the Vampire version of Beast (from Beauty and the Beast).  I wish there was more of Butch, the tortured homicide detective.  I was more attracted to him and his romance with Marissa...and plus he a Red Sox fan ;)

REVIEW 2 (January 9, 2014)
4 STARS

When I first read this novel I liked it but was not wowed.  Two years later, I decided to do a re-read so I could continue the beloved series and whoa I had a totally different reading experience.  I savoured each word and scene and loved the romance of Beth and Wrath.  While I still did not "fall in love" with Wrath I respected him a lot more this reading.

Butch is still hands down my favourite and I cannot wait to see where the story goes with him...and Marissa.  I also like Tohr and Wellsie and hope we get more on their romance in the future.  Each brother has intrigue and I cannot wait to dig into the rest of the series.

Dark Lover was published 2005 and is avail now.  Eleven books have been published to date in this series with book number 12 coming out this spring (The King).

Most likely you will see more reviews on this series!

Do Not Attend Lydia's Party: Review

dear readers,

I was in my early twenties when I read Elizabeth Berg's Pull of the Moon which is about a middle age woman rediscovering her life and herself.  I read books based on writing style rather than the age of the characters.  Nora Ephron's humour is relatable and when she talks about growing old you are interested and invested in reading her stories. I read the synopsis of Lydia's Party and was interested in Margaret Hawkins' novel...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

LYDIA'S PARTY
Written by Margaret Hawkins
genre: literary fiction

2 STARS

It is late January and Lydia is throwing her annual winter party with the usual suspects - at one time or another were also her colleagues.  As she preps for the evening she thinks about her friends, family, lovers and career over two decades.  In between Lydia's thoughts we get each friend's story.

I found this story on the dull side.  It was not the "middle age women thinking back on their lives" that bothered me.  I have been reading books with this plot since I was in my mid-teens.  Elizabeth Berg is one author that does well with this subject matter.  I think it was the "tell" not "show" approach to the story and that it fell flat after a few pages.  I really wanted to like this novel as it sounded promising.   Personally I prefer Elizabeth Berg, Anne Tyler and Sue Miller.

Novel will be released...JANUARY 23, 2014.

Fear Nothing...or Everything!

dear readers,

Two nights ago I stayed up till 1 am to finish FEAR NOTHING as I could not go to sleep until I knew the identity of the murderer.  Then when I did finished I was a bit creeped out...

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

FEAR NOTHING
(D.D. Warren: Book Seven)
Written by Lisa Gardner
genre: mystery, suspense, thriller, serial killers

4 STARS

D.D. Warren has been injured quite badly on the job and lives in pain every moment of the day.  As she goes forth with personal therapy she also tries to remember what happened that night she fell down the stairs.  Her superior suggests she should try Dr. Adeline Glen to manage her pain.

Adeline Glen has a rare condition where she is unable to feel pain.  She must constantly
monitor her actions in order to be aware of danger as her body cannot let her know.  Adeline's life has been rare - her father was a serial killer who killed himself once the police were on to him, her mother died in an institution, she was adopted by a doctor who wanted to keep her alive and an older sister that is in prison for killing a boy when she was fourteen.  Decades later she, Shana is still in prison for murdering guards in prison.  Shana's only monthly visitor is Adeline.

30 years after Shana's first murder women are being murdered and skin flayed like their father had done and Shana herself.  One is dead and the other in prison so who is killer?

D.D. gets involved in solving the crime despite her injury and starts looking at Day family and their secrets.  Can she discover the killer before she or another woman is murdered?

I was intrigued with this novel for so many reasons.  Adeline's condition was so interesting and how she had to live her day to day life.  Adeline was a hard character to completely like as she had some odd activities she liked to engage in.  Yet, I found myself feeling sorry for her too, as she is alone and her past seems to always be so present.  Shana is a perfect character to dissect and dislike at the same time.  She is hostile and a killer but her upbringing makes you wonder if she could have been any other way.  Poor D.D. is injured and is almost sidelined but yay she pushes her way into the case.

The suspense in this novel was crazy...I was constantly trying to figure it all out but then gave up when the twists kept turning me around to the point I was getting dizzy.  A great suspense mystery thriller that will have you up all night trying to finish the novel to reveal the killer!

Fear Nothing is published January 7, 2014.
